DAY 3: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE

Saturday, May 27, 2017: We drove the Golden Circle today, which takes around 8 hours with stopping at the sights.

First stop: PINGVELLIR NATIONAL PARK. This fissure you see running through the ground is the continental divide between the North America and European tectonic plates.

Next stop: GEYSIR

Final stop along the Golden Circle: GULLFOSS

As we were driving east towards our next lodging for the night, we came across these horses.

Then, we stumbled across this incredible waterfall. And we got to walk behind. AND we had forgotten all of our rain gear in the car, so we got drenched! C'est la vie!

And then we arrived at our new favorite place on earth! It's called the Garage apartments and we stayed in "the Middle." The property is just spectacular. Siggi and his wife own it and are sheep farmers now. He was a mechanic and she was a lawyer until they decided to go back to their roots. His family has lived here for over 200 years. He has free electricity and water from the gorgeous waterfall on his land., which he routed to his house He has to walk all the way up to the top of those mountains to bring down his sheep. We had several conversations with Siggi while we were there and he was the nicest man. His sweet wife made us a traditional Icelandic desert that resembled a crepe filled with cream and wild berries and left them in the fridge for us. Siggi had Michael feed the sheep before we left. For me, getting to know the locals is part of the splendor of traveling. Our night there was magical! The rest of Iceland has big shoes to fill if it plans to top that!

FROM MICHAEL:

I went behind a waterfall. The end.

From Mike:

I ate a bug.

MY RANDOM THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

My hair is slowing recovering from the Blue Lagoon (it has been really dry from the minerals in the water there).

We are even more sunburned today and the UV index was a 2. How does that happen?

I want to own a piece of property as beautiful as the Garage apartments someday.

I am tired of paying to pee, especially when I just spent way too much money on non-nutritious food in your tiny convenience store because there were no real food options.

Overpaying for food gets annoying. But the scenery is just breathtaking, so it's all worth it in the end!

A Very Different Kind of Wandering for the Wrights

The Wandering Wrights are trying out a new kind of wandering. We have wandered permanently to...COLORADO! That's right...the Wr...
