DAY 8: DETTIFOSS AND AKUREYRI

Thursday, June 1, 2017: We left the East and drove to the North today. We were all feeling better, but I was still really congested, so we stopped at the local pharmacy on our way out of town. When I asked for cold medicine, the woman behind the counter told me that that kind of medicine is illegal in Iceland. She recommended a nasal spray instead. This stuff is amazing! Within 5 minutes it's as if I was never congested at all. That means it can't possibly be sold in America because it actually works. Also, it has braille on the box! That made me happy.

It is unbelievable to me how drastically the landscape changes in this country from one hour to the next. Here are some pictures from the drive.

We stopped at Dettifoss waterfall on the way to Akureyri. It is not our favorite but pretty nonetheless. Michael is over waterfalls at this point.

Then we continued our drive to Akureyri. Here is our cabin for the next 4 nights.

Then, we went and had our first dinner out (other than gas station hot dogs!). It cost us $100.50 for ribs, fish and chips, a kid's hamburger meal, and an order of mozzarella sticks. None of it was all that great, and it definitely wasn't worth the money. Hopefully we'll find a better dinner out somewhere else one night.

MY RANDOM THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY:

I love that there are no billboards or advertising anywhere. It's nice not being bombarded at every turn with pressure to buy things we don't need.

I was very happy to do laundry tonight. Yay for clean clothes!

We finally experienced the notorious wind and It. Was. Brutal. This is the third windiest place on the plant, after all.
