DAY 6: DRIVE TO THE EASTFJORDS

Tuesday, May 30, 2017: We took it easy today. We woke up when we wanted and ate a slow breakfast (free from the hotel, so we ate as much as we could!). We were pretty pooped from yesterday's adventures. We drove 3 hours from Hofn in the East to Seydisfjordur in the region of the Eastfjords. The drive was a little harrowing today. It consisted of drop-off cliffs to the sea, winding gravel roads to the top of mountains, and cloud-ladened narrow roads for which there was zero visibility. But we ended up in a quaint little town on a fjord. We will have an amazing view from where we are staying if the clouds and rain ever go away.

Can you spot Mike...freaking me out?!?!?!

Mike washing the gravel and dirt off our rental car. Yes...it was that bad that we had to take advantage of the free car wash station. I imagine it is there at the end of the long, windy, gravel road for a reason. Michael and I were cheering him on (i.e. we wanted nothing to do with the task).

Then we stopped for lunch at a cafe and took advantage of non-gas station food! And it was the cheapest lunch yet...$61.90 for a large pizza, nachos, and soup.

Then we found our cottage for the next two nights! It's the tiny little brown dot in the middle of the first picture.

Hopefully, the weather will clear up and I can take some pictures of the view tomorrow. We spent an hour in the hot tub tonight in the freezing cold rain. It was very relaxing, believe it or not!

FROM MICHAEL:

We almost became hot tub people.

(It was hilarious. It was SOOO cold trying to get out of the hot tub---this has been the coldest day here so far, around 32 degrees---Michael said we would have to become hot tub people and Daddy would need to bring us food and drinks to our new home in the hot tub.)

FROM MIKE:

Crappy drone weather.

MY RANDOM THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY:

It was nice to have a low-key day.

We found a real grocery store today! Yay!

We are actually recognizing locations from Game of Thrones...how cool is that?! And from The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

My hair has finally recovered from the Blue Lagoon minerals and silica.

I don't know if we over-do beds in America or if Europe under-does beds. Bedding here consists of a pillow and a duvet. That's it. Oh, and a bottom sheet. I have a bottom sheet, a top sheet, a blanket, and a comforter on my bed at home. The benefit of the sole duvet system is that it's super easy to make the bed. The downside is that you are either sweating or freezing with no blanket at all because there are no multiple layers to choose from to find the perfect comfort level.

  1. Jen, to answer your question about beds...american over doing their beds. Most people in the world think it's rediculous to have so many layers on their bed. I do my bed the Icelandic way.

  2. Thanks, Zila. I truly have been wondering! It makes bed laundry easier, too.
