Wednesday, November 15, 2017: Four Corners Monument and the Grand Canyon
We stopped at the Four Corners Monument on our way to the Grand Canyon. It was neat. It was fun to stand in four places at the same time.
This sign made us laugh. There are four states, why not be allowed to take four pictures?!
Apparently, people spreading deceased loved one's ashes here is a thing.
We stopped for fry bread. It was yummy!
We arrived at the Grand Canyon! None of us
have been here before, so we were very excited. While it's a giant hole
in the earth, it is a gorgeous hole! The colors almost make it look like
a painting.
We stayed the night at the Thunderbird Lodge inside the park. This was our view from the room when we woke up in the morning. Totally worth the extra money!
Last picture before heading out. The scene is always changing with the light. It's just spectacular!
FROM MICHAEL:
At the Four Corners, there was a lady smoking marijuana but was so high she couldn't push the button (this is Jen: yes...we are constantly surrounded by high, skunky people. I really wasn't expecting that. I thought (or hoped) that it would be treated like alcohol, in that people would not be intoxicated around my child every where we went. I was wrong!)
FROM MIKE:
Jen went to Utah without us.
MY RANDOM THOUGHTS:
The Four Corners was worth the out-of-the way drive. I have no desire to ever stop again, so "check!" The Grand Canyon was truly magnificent. I worried that one night would not be enough. I think it was fine. I feel that we saw what we wanted to see in that tight time frame. I also don't feel a need to go back anytime soon, so "check" again! My must-see places list is getting lots of "checks" during this trip!
FYI: We ate breakfast at McDonald's just outside of the park. It cost us $46!!! That is common for this area according to the customer service woman. While I had flashbacks of Iceland meal receipts, I guess it was still cheaper than there, so it could have been worse.
